Book Review: Ted Goulding's Fuchsias:the Complete Guide ( Batsford, London, 2nd edition 2002)

The fly leaf proclaims the following about Ted Goulding's book: 'A detailed but practical classic text that comes with wide-ranging personal experience. It is useful for the committed fuchsia fan as well as those contemplating growing fuchsias for the first time'. What more can I say? Just a little; Goulding's book is one to be savoured! His writing is precise and clear. He covers every imaginable need of the fuchsia grower. However, it's wise to remember, as you read it, that the book has been written for English and European gardeners. We need to adapt his ideas for our conditions.
The colour plates are excellent and enticing. You will say, as I have done,'I want that one and that one...........and that one.' Unfortunately many of the cultivars are not readily available to us. There is no requirement that you must read the whole  book. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on Special fuchsias and the Description and references to all known species.
